Arnulfo Cantu “Pipo” Stakes, born to Arnulfo H. and Martina Stakes on March 1, 1929, in San Antonio, Texas, died Saturday, January 28, 2012, at the age of 82 years with his family by his side. He married Maria Alicia Longoria Stakes on October 19, 1952 in Pearsall, Texas. They moved to Illinois in 1954 where they raised their children. He is survived by his wife, Maria Alicia, son, Robert and wife, Beth, of Illinois, daughters, Karen of Maryland, Debra and husband, Scott, of California and son, John of California; nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and sister, Diana Ramirez of Cotulla and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Olympia, Ruby, Florisa and brother Armando.
Through the years he was a faithful member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dilley, Texas where he sang in the choir. Pipo was a transmission specialist at Bill Cook Buick in Arlington Heights, Illinois for 27 years. Pipo and Alicia moved back to Dilley in 1985 where Pipo built their home and opened S & S Hydramatics that he ran until he retired in 1994.
Rosary was held on Tuesday January 31st, 2012 at Trevino Royal Oaks Dilley Chapel, 7pm. Funeral mass was held on Wednesday February 1st, 2012 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dilley, 10am. Interment followed at the Dilley Cemetery.
