Clifton Lewis Stacy, Sr. (Our Big’En)
Clifton Lewis Stacy, Sr. slipped away peacefully on Sunday, November 12, 2023 at age 85.
Clifton Lewis Stacy, Sr was born to Pauline Geyer Stacy and Wesley Edmund Stacy in Goldfinch, Texas on November 27, 1937. He was raised on the family farm and attended Pearsall schools until his graduation from Pearsall High School in 1956. He went on to Texas A&I College in Kingsville, Texas, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Animal Husbandry in 1960. That October, he married his wife of 63 years, Sally, and they moved back to the farm.
Other than a short stint in the Air National Guard, the rest of his life was centered around agriculture, his family, his church, and the farm. Clifton was dedicated to preserving farms for the future, especially peanut farming. He served on the Texas Peanut Producers Board for over 25 years, and was a member of the American Peanut Council, serving as a liaison to Europe in 2006. He was a founding member of the Texas Pest Management Association, working with Texas Tech and Texas A&M to improve crop production. He served for over 25 years on the Evergreen Underground Water Board, advocating for agricultural producers water usage. Clifton served on the Frio County Farm Bureau board for 49 years, and was on the Texas Farm Bureau Board. He was chosen as Man of the Year in Agriculture by the Texas County Agricultural Agents Association in 1995.
Clifton gave his time to First Methodist Church of Pearsall, Texas, serving in many capacities, and was a member of the American Legion, and the Pearsall Jaycees.
But what we remember most is his booming voice, his love of talk-radio especially the farm report, the way he laughed and laughed at Pink Panther movies, his endless knowledge of all things, his love of reading, his ability to nap ANYWHERE, his rancher style hats, his love of good food, and his extreme generosity.
Clifton is survived by his son, Clifton Lewis Stacy, Jr. of Pearsall, TX, his daughters Tracy Stacy Howard of College Station, Texas, and Amanda Stacy Neelley of Columbia, TN, along with their people, Kathleen, Jeff, and Ben; his grandchildren, Sakett Howard, Stacy Olivia Howard, George (Emily) Neelley, Clifton Stacy III (Trey), Paul Neelley, Clay Stacy, Caroline Neelley, Juliana Neelley, and Wade Neelley; and his great-grandchildren, Isabella Neelley, Cash Stacy, and Cole Stacy. He is also survived by his brother, John (Kitty) Stacy, and his sisters-in-law, Wanda Traweek and George (Paul) Hanley.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Sally, his parents, his sisters Kathryn, Jean, and Doris, his daughter-in-law Susan, and his grandson, Jacob Neelley.
A memorial service will be held at the Pearsall Methodist Church on Saturday, November 25, 2023, 2pm.
