Obituary

Dolores M. Escalante, 89 of Pearsall, passed away on August 28, 2026, surrounded by loved ones. She was born on October 9, 1936, and lived a long life marked by devotion to her family, deep faith, and a strong work ethic.

Mrs. Escalante was a migrant farmer and also helped her husband drive trucks. She worked until she turned 80 years old, reflecting the determination and resilience that shaped her life. She loved to travel and was known for traveling on her own, embracing both independence and adventure. A devoted Catholic with a very strong faith, she was part of the Sisters of Carmel Brown Scapular. Among the great joys of her life was having a house full of grandchildren, something she treasured deeply.

She is survived by her children, Leonides Escalante and Mary Jane, Maria Recio, Janie Stokes, Guadalupe Escalante and Rebecca Taylor, and Gilbert Escalante and Irene. She is also survived by her siblings Felicita Villarreal, Ramiro Mendoza, Elida Lopez, Diana Garcia, Mary Leal, Graciela Reyes and Jose Mendoza. Her family all who knew her will remember her with love for her strength, her faith, her hardworking spirit, and the warmth she found in being surrounded by those she loved most.

Among those left to cherish her memory are her beloved niece, Lenora Esqueda and her husband, Danny, and her nephew, J.P. Navarro and his wife, Rita, who remained devoted to her throughout her life and made many heartfelt sacrifices to be by her side during her final days. Their love, compassion, and unwavering presence will always be remembered and deeply appreciated by our family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Guadalupe Escalante; her sons, Robert “Bob” Escalante and Rudy Escalante; her son-in-law, Ruben Recio; her grandson, George Cabasos Jr.; siblings Cruz Riojas ,Daniel Mendoza Jr., Petra Garza, Ismael Mendoza, Gilda Reyes. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren, 6 great great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 3, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Trevino Royal Oaks Funeral Chapel and Crematory, 203 E. Frio, Pearsall, Texas 78061. A Rosary will be recited there the same evening from 7:00 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. The Mass will be celebrated on Friday, September 4, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 422 W. Brazos St, Pearsall, Texas 78061. Burial will follow from 2:00 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. at Pearsall Catholic Cemetery Westside, Radio Road, Pearsall, Texas 78061.

Pallbearers include, Stevie Escalante, John Recio, Cody Escalante, Matthew Recio, Daniel Escalante, Logan Mercer and Leonides Escalante Jr.

Dolores M. Escalante leaves behind a legacy of faith, perseverance, and love for family. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew her and peace to all who gather to honor her life.
