Gumesindo J. Amaya, 62 of Pearsall, entered rest on October 16, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on July 14, 1956 in Winamac, Indiana to Jose Amaya Sr. and Blasa Acosta Amaya. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Jay Amaya.
He is survived by his wife, Cruz Viesca Amaya of Pearsall; children, Jason Anthony Amaya and wife Loretta of Lytle, Janice Amaya Robledo and Christopher Lee Esparza of Pearsall and Annaliza Amaya Arrellano and Thomas of Pearsall; bothers and sisters, Jose Amaya Jr. and wife Rachel of Pearsall, Diana Villalobos and husband Juan of Pearsall, Olga Vidaurri of Buda, Frances Amaya of Pearsall, David Amaya and wife Sylvia of Pearsall, Janie Gonzales and husband Joshua of Pearsall, Rosario Campos and husband Juan of San Antonio and Joseph Amaya of Bakersfield, California, and his step-mom Juanita Amaya from Bakersfield California. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Ivan Amaya, Orlando Amaya, Jeremiah Amaya, Samuel Robledo, Mariska Robledo, Virginia Nieto, Kristi Esparza and Ethan Arellano as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Pallbearers include, Amando Rodriguez, Domingo Rodriguez, Augustin De Leon Sr., Rey Maldonado III, Jose Amaya Jr., Alfonso Gonzales, Armando Gonzales, Ivan Amaya and Anselmo Ornelas.
Gumesindo or "Gomer" as people knew him by graduated Pearsall High School in 1976. He married Cruz on Jan 13, 1976 where he then had 3 children; Jason, Janice and Annaliza. He worked as a self employed welder for many years until he took a position working for the Frio County Road and Bridge. He held that position for 16 years until his retirement last December. Gomer was an active parishioner at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church where he was a member of the Kights of Columbus for 30 plus years. He was known for always Barbecuing or cooking for family and church events. He was a very humble and simple person who enjoyed helping others in any way he could. He will be missed by many.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 19, 2018 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church from 5pm-9pm. A rosary will be recited at 7pm. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 10am. Services will conclude at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.
