Obituary

Irma Cantu Gonzalez, 95, a beloved resident of Dilley, Texas, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2026, surrounded by her family. Born on March 12, 1931, in Dilley, Irma dedicated much of her life to public service and her community.

Irma's career was marked by distinguished service as the Chief Appraiser-Tax Assessor Collector for Frio County, a position she honorably held for over 26 years before her retirement in 2010. Her commitment to her work and her community was exemplary, and her impact will be remembered by many.

A proud graduate of Dilley High School in 1948, Irma nurtured a rich and fulfilling life beyond her professional achievements. She loved to sew, paint, and read, finding joy and inspiration in creativity and knowledge. Additionally, she found great happiness working alongside her husband on their ranch in Divot, cherishing the outdoors and the life they built together.

Irma delighted in spending time outside, visiting with her family and playing with her grandchildren—moments that brought her immense joy and fulfillment.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 75 years, Francisco Gomez Gonzalez, and their five children: Sara Alicia Terry (Edward), Doris Gutierrez (Quirino), Maria Irene Gonzalez, Agnes Ramirez (David), and Francisco Cantu Gonzalez (Lynne). Her legacy continues through her 15 cherished grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren, all of whom were a source of great pride and happiness for Irma.

Irma was preceded in death by her mother, Maria Cantu Ledesma.

The family will receive friends and loved ones for visitation on June 1, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the Treviño Royal Oaks Dilley Chapel, located at 604 W Leona St, Hwy 85, Dilley, TX 78017. A rosary will follow from 10:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., with Mass beginning at 11:00 a.m. on the ssame day at St Joseph’s Catholic Church . Subsequently, a graveside service will be held at Dilley Cemetery, located at 363 County Road 4670, Dilley, TX 78017, starting at 12:00 p.m. and concluding at 12:30 p.m.

Irma Cantu Gonzalez’s life was marked by dedication, love, and service—a beacon of strength and kindness to all who knew her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and the community she so deeply cherished.
