Irma Velasco Maldonado, 85, of Pearsall, entered rest peacefully on December 27, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born on July 31, 1939, in Pearsall to Pedro Velasco and Ofilia Puente, Irma was a beacon of love and strength throughout her life.
Irma's journey was marked by deep devotion to God, her family and an unwavering spirit that touched everyone she met. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Rodolfo Diaz Maldonado and cherished grandchildren Alyssa J. Fenton, Michael Maldonado, and Jason Maldonado. Her legacy also includes the memory of those who raised her: Consolacion “Chico” Puente as well as her in-laws Estanislado Maldonado, Margarita Maldonado, and Juanita Gutierrez.
She leaves behind her children—Rodolfo Orlando (Nydia), Yvonne Medina (Billy), Annabel Fenton (Frankie), Annette Nieto (Roland), and Melinda Waters (Odie)—who carry forward the values she instilled in them: kindness, resilience, and unconditional love. Irma’s siblings Yolanda Trevino, Elva Morales, Rey Hernandez, and Juania Alejo will forever cherish their memories together.
A proud matriarch of a large family that includes 14 grandchildren along with ten great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; each member holds a special place in their hearts for the woman whose laughter filled rooms with warmth. Irma had an extraordinary ability to make every gathering feel like home—a testament to how deeply she cared for those around her.
Visitation will be held on Thursday evening at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church starting at 5 PM followed by a rosary recited at 7 PM. A funeral mass celebrating Irma’s remarkable life will take place on Friday morning at the same church at 10 AM before interment follows at Veterans Cemetery where she will be laid to rest beside Rodolfo—the love of her life.
