Jose Ramon Rivera, born on September 1, 1950 in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, departed this life suddenly on July 26, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of devotion, kindness, and steadfast faith. Throughout his 75 years, Jose touched the lives of all who had the pleasure of knowing him and established himself as a pillar of his community.
Jose devoted many years of his early life as an airplane fabric upholsterer, a testament to both his diligence and his dedication to craftsmanship. However, it was in service to others that Jose found his truest calling. For over two decades, he faithfully and passionately served as pastor for Iglesia en la Roca in Dilley, Texas. His leadership and compassion fostered a welcoming environment, nurturing the faith and well-being of countless members of his congregation. His guidance and presence will be deeply missed by those who sought comfort and hope within the church’s walls.
In addition to his ministry, Jose was an entrepreneur whose resourceful spirit inspired those around him. He was also a highly skilled mechanic and found enjoyment in working on cars, often lending a hand to friends, family, or neighbors in need of his expertise. Jose’s willingness to help, whether with a word of encouragement, spiritual guidance, or practical assistance, made him an irreplaceable part of his community.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Rose Marie Rivera, He leaves behind his children: Alexis Rivera and her husband Jeremiah, Alejandro Rivera, Sonia Smith, and Abraham Rivera. Jose’s legacy continues through his grandchildren, Jaden Smith, Nathaniel Johnson, and Andrew Johnson, each of whom were a source of immense pride and joy. He is also survived by his sisters, Dora Lopez and Gloria Rivera, and his brothers, Porfirio M. Rivera and Jose Luis Rivera.
The family remembers with affection those who preceded Jose in death: his son Marco Rivera; his father Porfirio Rivera Llanas his mother Bernada Medina Almendarez; his brother Oscar Rivera, and his sister Socorro Rivera.
Jose’s lifelong work and his steadfast character made an indelible mark on all who knew him. His legacy will live on in the community he served, the family he cherished, and the countless lives he influenced. The family would like to invite everyone to leave condolences and share their memories, honoring the remarkable journey of a loving husband, devoted father, treasured grandfather, and compassionate friend.
