Jose Roland Segovia, 53 of Pearsall, entered rest on February 3, 2021 in San Antonio, TX. He was born on November 17, 1967 in Dilley, TX to Margarito Flores and Eulalia Segovia. He is preceded in death by his parents, and sister Sylvia Flores.
Although born in Dilley, TX, Roland made Pearsall his hometown at a very young age. While attending Pearsall High, he met and later married his high school sweetheart, Monica. Together they raised 3 children, Tiffany, Roland James and Araceley.
After graduating Roland quickly took up the love of men's softball. Thru the years, he traveled to many places where he made many life long friends. His most memorable journey was playing as a pitcher in the World Hispanic Tournament in Phoenix, Arizona, where Roland and his team, Eagle Auto Glass won the championship. His love for the sport lead him to Pearsall Little League. Before having his children of his own, Roland volunteered many years coaching and managing. Roland also held the position of President on Pearsall LL.
Apart from having a passion for sports, Roland had an even greater passion for politics. In 1999, Roland started his political journey, placing his name on the ballot for mayor for the City of Pearsall, where he served three consecutive terms. While part of the City of Pearsall, he served as Mayor, Mayor pro-tem and as a council member. He led many projects for Pearsall, some including a new McDonalds, a GEO facility and new police department. He also organized annual toy drives, back to school supplies and Christmas giveaways. One of the latest projects was feeding the elderly during the current covid-19 pandemic. To him personally, the new HEB was his biggest accomplishment. Roland gave his heart for his citizens. He was always willing to help any and everyone, day or night, with a smile on his face and never asking for anything in return. He was a fighter for his community, especially for the elderly and children.
The love that Roland had for his family never went unnoticed. His wife, children and princess Jenna were his world. He loved spending time with them all. His children are often told many stories of their parents but their favorite of all is hearing about Roland walking from Pearsall to Natalia just to see his love. Many people will tell you that Roland was one of a kind. He was a funny, generous, caring and loving man. He impacted many lives and left many great memories with the City of Pearsall. He will be greatly missed.
