Jose Segovia

Jose Maria Segovia, 78 of Dilley entered rest on March 9, 2015 in Lytle surrounded by his family. He was born on September 6, 1936 to Bartolo Segovia and Teresa Flores Segovia.

Mr. Segovia attended Dilley High School from 1954-1957.He was a member of the varsity baseball and football teams. He played center for the football team and in 1955 they ended the season as Regional Champions, which is equivalent to state. After high school he started his business as a contract painter/carpenter. He married the love of his life, Angelita Garcia Segovia on September 25, 1960.

He had a passion for singing, dance and Christian music and in the 80's he started a conjunto, Los Cristianos Alegres which later was called Los Orientales de Joe Segovia. The band played at weddings, quinceneras, funerals, anniversaries and most of all at church. The band provided music of praise and worship for churches all around Frio and surrounding counties. He was an active parishioner for St. Joseph Catholic Church, he served as an usher, Eucharistic minister, catechist, member of the Cursillistas and was on the church fundraising committee. He served as Little League and Pony League coach for over 23 years. He was very passionate about supporting the Dilley Wolves and most recently the Lytle Pirates where his grandchildren attend. He had an obsession for his 1971 Chevy pickup, his "paint truck." He worked with the community, local businesses, surroundings churches and will always be remembered for his smile, laughter and most importantly his contribution to his community.
He was always there to lend a helping hand and had an enormous amount of friends and cherished each and every one of them.

Joe was the director of the Dilley L.A Cemetery. He voluntarily managed and maintained the cemetery for over 45 years. He provided families peace of mind long after their loved ones were buried. Maintaining the cemetery and building the gazebo were Mr. Segovia's top priorities.

He is preceded in death by his parents, twin grand babies Correa and siblings, Maria R. Ramirez, Jose Ruiz, Guadalupe R. Lopez, Viviana R. Smith, Nieves Segovia, Guillerma S. Guajardo, Alicia Segovia, Mauro Segovia, Placido Segovia and Jesus Segovia.

He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Angelita Garcia Segovia, children: Joe Oran Segovia and wife Debbie of Austin, Amaris S. Correa and husband George Jr. of Lytle. Sisters: Porfiria S. Marquez, Natividad S. Gutierrez, Eulalia Segovia and Victoria S. Trevino. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Kristen Loraine Correa and George Andrew Correa as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers include: Paul Gonzales, Juan Trevino, Mack Segovia, Manuel Gomez, Roland Segovia and Ruben Gonzales. Honorary pallbearers include: special friends and Dilley Wolves 1955 Regional Champion football team.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2015 at Trevino Royal Oaks Funeral Chapels-Dilley from 3pm-9pm with a rosary recited at 7pm. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, March 13, 2015 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 2pm. Interment will follow at the Dilley Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Dilley L.A Cemetery, St. Judes Children's Hospital, Children's Hospital of San Antonio, American Cancer Society and the American Diabetes Association.
