In Loving Memory of Librada Perez ("Libby") July 20, 1927 – November 30, 2024

Librada Perez, affectionately known as “Libby” to some and “Libe” to others, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at 7:32 PM under the dutiful care of the staff at Gracy Woods I Nursing Center in Austin, TX.

Born on July 20, 1927, in Cotulla, TX, Libby was the beloved daughter of Mateo and Luisa Perez. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Rafael Benavidez; her parents; her siblings, Tomasa, Jesus, and Martin; and numerous nieces and nephews who held a special place in her heart.

Throughout her life, Libby was blessed with the support and love of those who cherished her. Antonio “Tony” P. Morin and Juanita M. Cruz played pivotal roles in her later years. Tony, who resided nearby, was a constant source of strength and comfort until his own health challenges arose and took their toll. In late 2022, after Libby experienced a fall and hospitalization, Juanita lovingly welcomed her into her home in Round Rock, TX. There, Juanita provided dedicated care until her health began to decline in late 2023.

On December 23, 2023, Libby transitioned to Gracy Woods I Nursing Center. Her safety, comfort and care were overseen by her great-nieces Melissa Cruz Gonzalez (Round Rock), Cindy Cruz Ledesma (Elgin), and Carol G. Morin (Hutto), along with Raul P. Morin (Round Rock) who visited frequently and further ensured her care remained a priority.

Libby spent over 40 years as a devoted employee of Ben Franklin's, a beloved five-and-dime store in Cotulla, TX. Following her retirement, she embraced a new calling as a full-time caregiver to her parents, exemplifying her profound love and commitment to family.

She is survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews who will continue to celebrate her remarkable legacy.

Libby’s passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. She will forever be remembered for her beautiful eyes, infectious smile, kindness, warmth, and steadfast devotion to family and friends. Her generous spirit and the cherished memories she created will live on in the lives of those she touched.

As we mourn her loss, we also celebrate a life well-lived—a life defined by faith, love, grace, and unwavering dedication to those she held dear. May her memory be a source of comfort and inspiration for generations to come.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at Trevino Royal Oaks Funeral Chapel, 604 W. Leona St. Dilley, TX 78017 from 5pm-9pm with a rosary recited at 6pm. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, December 6, 2024, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 307 S. Main St. Cotulla, TX 78014 at 10am. Interment will follow at the Cristo Rey Cemetery in Cotulla.
