Maria S. Arriazola, a beloved matriarch and woman of deep faith, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2026, in New Braunfels, Texas. Born on August 15, 1928, in Dilley, Texas, Maria's life was marked by devotion to family, faith, and the simple joys of home.
Maria's life journey was both rich and vibrant. Born and raised in Dilley, she later moved to Evanston, Illinois, in 1958 where she worked diligently for B&T Plastics. In 2019, she returned to her roots in San Antonio, bringing with her a lifetime of experiences and cherished memories.
She was known far and wide for her exceptional cooking—particularly her tamales, rice, and beans, which delighted family and friends alike. These meals were more than nourishment; they were a symbol of her love and an expression of her nurturing spirit. Her kitchen was a sacred space where tradition and care met in every dish she prepared.
Maria’s faith was a cornerstone of her life. A woman who loved God deeply, she could often be heard whispering prayers, a testament to her unwavering spirituality and strength. Her devotion extended beyond her relationship with the divine; she dedicated herself fully to her family, whom she adored without reservation.
She is survived by her children: Armando Arriazola (Pamela), Elsie Pena, and Rene Arriazola (Susan). Her loving legacy continues through her grandchildren Leilani Arriazola, Victoria Arriazola, Joseph Pena, Elizabeth Pena-Tabor (Harold), and Alina Arriazola. She was also the proud great-grandmother of Brooklyn House and Stephanie Pena. In addition, Maria leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.
Maria was preceded in death by her husband, Jose Arriazola Jr.; her parents, Telesforo Salazar and Enriquetta Carbajal Salazar; and her siblings Catarina Garcia, Robert Salazar, Margarita Selberra, Jose “Chepe” Salazar, and Julian C.Salazar Sr. Their memories remain an enduring part of her life story and the foundation upon which her family stands.
The family will receive friends and loved ones for a viewing on May 26, 2026, starting at 10:30am at Bethania United Methodist Church, located at 124 West Curtis Street, Dilley, TX 78017. This will be followed by a funeral service beginning at 11:30 a.m., concluding at noon. A burial will take place at Dilley Cemetery, 363 County Road 4670, Dilley, TX 78017, commencing at 12:30 p.m.
Maria S. Arriazola’s life was a testament to faith, love, and the timeless treasures of family. She will be remembered with profound respect and affection by all who knew her. Her legacy lives on through her descendants and the countless lives she touched with her kindness and grace.
