Ramiro “Trooper” Verastique, 70, of Pearsall, Texas, passed away at home on March 5, 2025. He was a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who dedicated his life to serving others.
As a loving and devoted father to his only daughter Raegina, and son-in-law Martin Gallegos, Ramiro instilled values of generosity and resilience. His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren: Jose, Evelyn, Drasden, and Adelina. In addition to sharing a birthdate, Ramiro and Adelina had a strong, unshakeable connection. She held a special place in his heart and brought him immense joy and laughter.
Additionally, Ramiro is survived by his great-grandson Damian, who he adored.
Ramiro was born on November 11, 1954 to Cruz Trevino Verastiqui and Bernandino Verastiqui. He shared an unbreakable bond with his siblings —Richard (Alamar), Robert, Rene (Irene), and Elsie DeRusse (Daniel)—who will forever remember him as a source of strength and support throughout their lives.
For 32 years, Ramiro served his community with honor as a law enforcement officer. He began his career in 1976 in the Pearsall Police Department and later in 1977 as a Deputy for the Frio County Sheriff’s Office. In 1979 he served as a police officer for the City of Alice; in 1980 as a Deputy Constable for Nueces County Pct. 4. It was 1981 when he realized his goal and became a State Trooper for the Department of Public Safely, Texas Highway Patrol. He retired as a Senior Trooper in 2009. His commitment to public service reflected not only in his work but also in how he treated everyone around him—with kindness and respect.
Ramiro was best known for his quick wit and his unique sense of humor. But above all, Ramiro will be remembered as someone who was generous, and someone who was always there for a friend, neighbor, or family member in need.
Though we mourn the loss of this remarkable man who touched so many lives with kindness and compassion; we find comfort knowing that Ramiro's spirit will live on through those who loved him dearly. As we say goodbye to our loving patriarch today—we carry forward with the memories we will cherish forever.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at Trevino Royal Oaks Funeral Chapels, from 3pm-9pm with a rosary recited at 7pm. Funeral mass celebration in honor of Ramiro will take place on Friday, March 14, 2025 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 10am. Interment will follow mass at the Pearsall Catholic Cemetery Westside.
Gina and Martin extend their heartfelt thanks to all those who assisted Ramiro during his final months. They also wish to express their sincere gratitude to Heart to Heart Hospice, with special appreciation to Rose who took excellent care of Ramiro; and Senaida Garcia for the compassionate care and support provided to him and the family over the last few weeks.
