Rosa Cantu Zapata

Rosa Cantu Zapata, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 12, 2026, in Cotulla at the age of 89. Born in Dilley on March 21, 1937, Rosa’s life was one devoted to family, strength, and enduring values that touched the hearts of all who knew her.

Rosa’s journey began in the close-knit community of Dilley, where she was born and raised. Throughout her long and fulfilled life, she remained deeply connected to her roots, cherishing the bonds formed in her hometown and never forgetting the lessons learned from her upbringing.

She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Elsa Mata (Joel), and by her cherished grandchildren: Andrea A. Carabajal, Carlos Arebalo, Rigo Arebalo, Joseph Mata, Odessa Mata and Ruben Gauna. Rosa’s legacy continues to shine through numerous great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her devoted brother, Gil Cantu Jr.

Rosa’s love extended beyond those still with us. She now joins her beloved daughter, Odessa Arebalo, and her son, Leonardo Arebalo Jr., whose memories are held close by all who mourn her passing. Their spirits are undoubtedly reunited, bound forever by unbreakable familial ties.

Family and friends will gather to celebrate Rosa Cantu Zapata’s life and lasting influence during a Memorial Service on Thursday, July 16, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Treviño Royal Oaks Dilley Chapel, 604 W Leona St, Hwy 85, Dilley, TX 78017. A Rosary will be recited during the service at 6:00 PM at the same location.

Rosa’s profound love, resolute spirit, and unwavering faith will continue to inspire all who had the privilege to know her. Her presence will be deeply missed, and her memory will remain forever dear in the hearts of her family and friends.
