Samuel C. Fonseca

February 24, 1920 — March 18, 2017

"Sam" one of eight sons and five daughters, born to Adan B. Fonseca and Seferina C. Fonseca in Divot, Texas, entered his eternal rest on March 18, 2017 after being blessed with 97 years of life. He is preceded in death by his parents  and siblings; David Fonseca, Florencio Fonseca, Moses Fonseca, Isaias Fonseca, Saul Fonseca, Sara Mata, Juanita Sanchez and Inocencia Valdez .

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Maria Fonsesca of Dilley, sons: Fidel Fonseca and wife Karen of Alabama and Mike Fonseca and wife Joann of Illinois. Brothers and sisters: Abram Fonseca and wife Tina Of Dilley, Jose Fonseca and wife Ofelia of San Antonio, Eva Moreno of Dilley and Elida Castillo of San Antonio. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren 7 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

In 1942, Sam left his parents and siblings to serve our great nation the United States of America during WWII. He was active in Normandy, Northern France and Rhineland, earning the American Theater Campaign medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with three bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal, a Meritorious Unit Award, a Victory Ribbon, one Service Stripe and three overseas bars. A decorated war hero, yet he sought no worldly recognition for his outstanding service record.

Sam also served as a solider of the Lord, who blessed him time and again. He was always cheerful, happy and sharing God's Word and promises to anyone who visited him. One of his favorite hymns to share was "Hay Valor y Fe". He is now among those who have gone before and who stand in the ranks of God's Heavenly Army.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at Trevino Royal Oaks Funeral Chapel-Dilley from 2pm-9pm with a prayer service held at 7pm. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 23, 2017 at Belen Baptist Church, 10am. Interment will follow at the Dilley Cemetery.
